How you spend your first hour can shape your entire day.
Adding and getting used to positive habits in your morning can potentially change your day for the better. These intentional moments can completely transform your mood, focus and energy. We've all had a time where we try to build the perfect daily routine, but sometimes the focus goes on the pressure of upholding it rather than the actual habits. You do not need a rigid, complicated, multi hour routine to feel your best. Rather, lasting wellness starts with acknowledging the small choices that ground your mind and awaken your body.
Here are 10 morning habits to start your day on the right note:
Drink water when you wake up
Often times you naturally wake up dehydrated from sleeping. Drinking water after you wake up can reduce morning grogginess and allow you to be more alert. In general, this habit can help reboot your mind.
Move your body
Moving your body at some point in your morning can get your blood pumping and release natural energy. It is a great step to a wellness routine. With this, it helps wake up your muscles and allows you to beat that heavy and tired feeling.
Eat a healthy breakfast
Your body needs fuel to be able to start your day off right. A good, healthy, and filling breakfast can give you the steady energy you need to continue your day and tasks.
Stay off your phone for 20 minutes after waking up
We all know how common the urge is to wake up and check our phone. However, this can actually be harmful for our minds immediately after waking up. Choosing to look at a screen as the first thing you do can overstimulate and stress out your brain. Staying off of the phone can keep you calm and in control of your morning, as well as reduce laziness to start your day.
Get sunlight
Bright light gives your brain a signal that the night is over and can assist in feeling more awake. It stops your body from feeling the sleepiness, and is a great way to get natural vitamin D.
Plan your priorities
We all know that trying to remember everything all at once can expose u to feeling stressed and create mental clutter. At some point in your morning, taking a few minutes to write down the things you want to achieve most today can stop you from feeling overwhelmed.
Continue your morning with a positive attitude
Sometimes a bad mood is all that is holding us back from having a good day. Waking up and choosing to have a positive attitude helps you handle whatever the day brings or throws at you.
Make your bed
By making your bed, you can finish the very first task of your day in less than 2 minutes. Sometimes, a mini task like this is just what we need to get the motivation to get more things done!
Practice 5-10 minutes of mindfulness/journaling
Doing this forces your brain to slow down and breathe. Along with this, it can help lower your stress and clear your mind before things start to get busy.
Sit in silence
Often right after waking up, sitting in silence can be just what we need to start the day right. Your brain can get a break from screens, music, and all things noise. Just sitting quietly can promote a peaceful, relaxed start.
